ABOUT THE ARTIST 

 

America Castillo is a vibrant storyteller who was born in Quecholac, Puebla, Mexico, but was raised just outside of Los Angeles, California. Her journey into the world of storytelling began with her aunt in Mexico, who took her to see her first movie, igniting a lifelong passion for the arts. Arriving in the United States at the age of 4, America vividly recalls the transformative moment when an animator visited her preschool, sparking her creative spirit.

America's journey through Arts and Entertainment has been a captivating fusion of her Mexican heritage and American upbringing. Armed with a degree in Broadcast/Radio Journalism from California State University, Northridge, America embarked on a quest for knowledge and self-expression, driven by a desire to enhance her writing, communication, and producing skills.

Her artistic prowess found a unique outlet during her time at Moorpark Community College, where she was frequently called upon to illustrate for the school paper, merging her love for storytelling with her artistic talents.

A fervent advocate for narrative exploration, America's creative endeavors transcend traditional boundaries. She channels her experiences growing up undocumented and navigating life with DACA through her comic character, Lil Murrr, weaving poignant tales of resilience, education, and mental health on social media.

At California State University, Northridge, America found a deeper connection to her Mexican roots and delved into the realms of media literacy and technological advancements shaping the industry. Her insatiable curiosity led her to explore the pervasive issues of misinformation, particularly within the Latino community, and the pressing need for greater representation in media.

During her college years, America produced  "Las Chismosa del Valle," a compelling podcast that delved into the intricacies of Latino culture and community gossip.

Driven by an unwavering commitment to storytelling in all its forms, America Castillo continues to illuminate the world with her narratives, bridging cultures, challenging perceptions, and advocating for inclusivity in media.
